Bricks Builder Structure Panel Highlight/Indicator

Jack, I know you already responded to my comment in the Bricks integration feature request thread here (screenshot attached): https://wpfusion.com/feature-requests/bricks-builder-integration/, but I thought I’d create a stand-alone feature request for this so other users might have a chance to vote on it. Copying/Pasting my comment from ^that thread below for context: “Hey Jack, I’m curious if it’d be possible to include a color indicator (maybe WP Fusion’s brand color) to any section in the Bricks structure panel where WP Fusion’s visibility settings are being used. That way, at a glance, it’s easy to identify sections that contain elements with visibility restrictions. Maybe the parent element can have a color if that’s the only thing with a visibility restriction , but child elements with visibility restrictions get a lighter shade of the color. That way it’s easy to track down any nested items with visibility restrictions being controlled by WP Fusion. Or if not a color indicator maybe icons of some sort, similar to Brick’s condition/interaction icons that appear to the right of structure panel elements could be used.” Here’s my Loom video explainer of how I’m envisioning it: https://www.loom.com/share/abd0a79eaf754824b2323a64ffe3b905?sid=af82b901-73c1-4d6f-a364-0c6fc2b0e0d1 This may or may not be related to this feature request regarding an overview of where tags are used on a site: https://wpfusion.com/feature-requests/tag-usage-reports-for-administrators/ My hope is Bricks Builder might get some love by way of a color/indicator/icon in the structure panel of the builder where WP Fusion visibility controls are active. Ideally, an indicator on the parent element (that way it’s visible with all structure elements collapsed) as well as any specific child elements). That way you know if it’s the entire section that’s restricted or just a nested item within a section. This would prevent the need to open every element on a page to check the content box for the little yellow indicator out to the left of the WP Fusion settings for that element. Also, this will change my life, lol. The membeship website I’m working on is going to get wayyyyy easier to manage with this addition.

  1. This is great, Jack! Thanks for making this a reality so quickly! This is already going to be very helpful. One remaining concern I have is how this indicator can be applied when an entire section is controlled by visibility settings. At present, if an entire section is hidden, I’m not seeing an orange dotted outline around the section. Elements nested within a section get highlighted if their visibility is controlled individually. But can this same effect be applied to the outermost parent container/section if the visibility controls are applied at that level? Screenshot below for context:

Or, if you recommend not showing/hiding entire sections, I may be attempting to go about this in a way this feature isn’t intended to serve. Thanks for your consideration and killer service already.

    1. I see what you mean 🤔.

We’re currently targeting the “render attributes” for elements to add the indicator if the element is protected… but apparently layout components like sections, containers, and blocks, aren’t considered “elements” and so they aren’t available in the same way.

I’m not seeing anything in their developer docs or in the code that would let us modify those components, but I’ve asked in their FB group to see if anyone has a workaround https://www.facebook.com/groups/brickscommunity/posts/1424861618178354/

  2. Thanks for exploring this further, Jack. This is an incredible value add as is. Can’t wait to see it get even better if that Bricks bug gets resolved.

  3. Hey Jack,

Just an update – I noticed the visibility controls are now working for containers, sections, etc. I just tested this after the latest Bricks update 1.10.2 and it’s working! Still no orange dotted line appearing about containers, sections, etc. when WP Fusion visibility controls are active, but the showing/hiding is working! So something must’ve been patched in this update. https://bricksbuilder.io/release/bricks-1-10-2/#full-changelog

    1. Ah interesting, was the actual protection of containers not working before? As far as I was aware that was working correctly, it was just the dotted line that was the issue 🤔

  4. Lol, I may well have forgotten exactly what was/wasn’t working. Maybe it was working but just the dotted line was missing! Very likely was working before. Can’t remember now though.
