About Us 👋
History
WP Fusion started as “InfuserPro” back in 2014.
At the time, the only options for running a membership site with Infusionsoft were Memberium or iMember360. Both had limited interoperability with the rest of WordPress, and their code was obfuscated (i.e. not open source)— making it very difficult to customize.
Steve Woody at Online Mastery approached us with a client who had an existing membership site using the UserPro plugin. They wanted to be able to sync their members with Infusionsoft, and use Infusionsoft tags to protect content in WordPress.
We realized we might be onto something here— maybe there were more people who wanted to connect their membership sites or online academies to Infusionsoft, without replacing all their plugins.
The idea for WP Fusion was born 💡
We were committed from the beginning to doing things “the WordPress way”.
That meant WP Fusion should:
- Be open source, so you can read the code, understand how it works, and extend it.
- Follow WordPress best practices in terms of extensibility and documentation.
- Allow you to use any combination of plugins you want to build your site, and change out plugins later without losing the connection to your CRM.
In February of 2015 we released the first commercial version of the plugin, with support for UserPro, Ultimate Member, WooCommerce, and Easy Digital Downloads.
But already the winds of change were blowing against Infusionsoft. It was hard to use, with opaque pricing, and pushy sales reps. Customers were switching to a newcomer, ActiveCampaign.
In theory the platforms are very similar— both have contact records, custom fields, and tags. But because WP Fusion was designed specifically for Infusionsoft, we couldn’t do anything to help these users once they switched.
We spent the second half of 2015 rebuilding WP Fusion from the ground up with a new, modular, structure— we could now add new CRMs as independent modules, and let you select (and switch between) whichever platform suits you best.
In March of 2016 we released the new WP Fusion 2.0, with support for ActiveCampaign in addition to Infusionsoft.
Soon after, we followed up with Ontraport and Drip integrations, while adding new plugin integrations with each release.
As of this writing in 2024, WP Fusion supports 50+ different CRMs and marketing automation systems, and over 150 WordPress plugins.
As we look to the future, the plugins and platforms may change, but small businesses will always benefit from a deep integration between their website and marketing automation system.
We’re committed to continuing to evolve and adapt to the latest technologies, while giving you the flexibility to choose the tools and platform that work best for your business 🧡
