For now I’d recommend using any WooCommerce checkout field editor (like https://wordpress.org/plugins/woo-checkout-field-editor-pro/) and syncing the custom field value to the CRM.
WP Fusion supports most checkout field editor plugins and the field will be detected automatically. It will show up under the WooCommerce heading in the Contact Fields list.
I’m nervous about getting too deep into checkout field customization because already our email consent checkbox doesn’t work correctly on some themes, and also doesn’t work with the new block editor checkout. It’s been a lot of time and resources on our side to keep one little checkbox in the right place, with the correct label alignment 😞
